San Luis Obispo - January 11th
After getting out of the pit that is LA - we made our way up to San Luis Obispo.
I love SLO. i really really do. i think its the fact that its a small town with a sweet downtown area and location-wise its kind of isolated there in Central California. I have played there a lot over the last couple years at the Farmer's Market, on campus at Cal Poly and at coffee shops. Always a good experience.
Linnaea's is a real small coffee house - especially for a 6 piece band. we all ended up fitting though and the place was packed with people. standing room only out in the hallway and people were even sitting in the isles - im sure the fire marshall would have shut us down if he'd caught wind of the haps.
we made the mistake of not clearing out the room and starting from a clean slate prior to the show - the chairs weren't organized enough in the audience and we never got an adequate sound check - which i will never go without again - so there was a bit of adjusting during the show. The show went real well but the band felt like we fell apart in the last couple of songs. which was really frustrating especially after playing great for all but the last 3 songs. it's probably not something that the audience noticed but we tend to be perfectionists so it got to us a bit.
i understand why people tour with tour managers now - there is just too much to think about sometimes - and its wearing to devote yourself to music and business.
our drama of the night was that someone lost the car keys. of course when i started asking everyone started pointing at some else. we searched the venue at the end of the night but they were no where to be found. we are still hoping they are just buried in the van somewhere.
